Master Technology Teachers (MTTs) are selected for their desire to learn new ways to use technology to enhance teaching and learning. These in-service teachers provide a vital link to the College of Education at UA and our pre-service teachers. UA students are encouraged to work with their MTT to seek new ways to integrate technology. The content areas of language arts, social studies, math, science, and foreign language are represented in the program. UA students may check out Technology on Wheels (TOW) bundles and other resources to bring additional hardware and software to the classroom experience.

This partnership helps close the gap between the potential of technology and the reality of classroom use. Such partnerships help to further the UA COE's goal of more effectively preparing tomorrow's teachers to use technology. Experiences vary, depending on the content and the in-service/pre-service match. Projects have included digital stories, weblogs, interactive PowerPoint presentations, virtual field trips, on-line web builder student-created sites, and electronic scrapbooks. MTT Project Examples:

  • Student intern, Leann Stegall, used this interactive powerpoint Deal or No Deal with Amy Hydrick's Geometry Class.
  • Social Studies teacher, Lisa Matherson, helped students trace their ancestral history through a Photostory, Where Did I Come From: Tracing Ancestral History.
  • Student intern, Casey Marler, and Geometry teacher, Amy Hydrick, worked together to create a Geometry Scavenger Hunt and Photostory.    
  • French teacher, Barbara Beemer worked with Technology in Motion trainer, Laurie Fowler to create this Virtual Field Trip. http://www.lauriefowler.com/parisvft.html
  • MTT teacher, Wendy Davis, worked with Methods student, Sarah Cook to create this interactive PowerPoint for Geometry. Interactive PowerPoint for Geometry(.pdf)
  • Student intern, Shaunna Brooks, and MTT Sabrina Sheffield developed biome and organelle adventure WebQuests. With the biome adventure, students play roles as travel agents and tourists to learn more about the different biomes of the world. Students take the organelle adventure to research and persuade others to “purchase” a cell. Students designed commercials using PowerPoint to “sell” their cells. http://www.bama.ua.edu/~mtt003/index

  • Methods student, Douglas Bailey, worked with Wes Gordan's Calculus class to create student web research projects that combine math with other disciplines, such as architecture, philosophy, poetry, literature, and astronomy!
